CTPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) is a voluntary supply chain security programme launched in November 2001 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). It brings together government and private businesses to strengthen security across global trade routes and reduce terrorism risks. Participants follow minimum security criteria, identify gaps, and improve safeguards throughout their supply chains. In return, they benefit from faster cargo clearance, fewer inspections, and lower risk scores when importing into the U.S. It covers importers, carriers, brokers, manufacturers, and logistics providers, with mutual recognition agreements with many other countries.
